Dehradun, June 16 -- The Opposition Congress on Sunday said that the repeated accidents involving choppers on the Char Dham route prove that warnings issued by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to chopper operators are hollow. Suryakant Dhasmana, senior vice president of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), said, "Today seven people died in another helicopter accident in the Kedar valley. This is the fifth accident involving choppers since the beginning of Char Dham yatra. It is extremely unfortunate. The blame lies with the Bharatiya Janata Party government." He said chopper operators were disregarding the laid down rules and guidelines for the greed of money and playing with the safety of passengers. Dhasmana said his party asked the state government to strictly implement air traffic rules for chopper services in the state. "The chopper took off from Kedarnath for Guptkashi despite bad weather conditions and crashed in the forest within minutes. After this chopper, two more choppers had taken off from Kedarnath but they turned back and landed safely after this chopper crashed," he said. The Congress leader said the repeated chopper accidents prove that warnings issued by CM Dhami to chopper operators were hollow threats and they are ready to risk people's lives just to earn money. He urged the state government to take strict action against chopper companies flouting safety norms and to conduct a thorough audit of helicopters to ensure the safety of pilgrims. Meanwhile, state BJP in charge Dushyant Gautam made a controversial remark while talking to reporters on the chopper crash. Responding to a question, Gautam asked reporters to operate helicopters with a guarantee that no one would die. "People are dying....it is painful....but you should run two-three schemes...and operate choppers in which people don't die....with a guarantee," he said. State BJP media in charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said, "A high level investigation has already been ordered into the crash incident by the state government and chopper operations have been shut for two days. CM Dhami has already made it clear that those guilty will not be spared," he said. "No compromises with passenger safety will be tolerated. The Congress should refrain from doing politics on the matter," he added....
