ARA, July 11 -- Fierce fighting between two groups of Congress broke out here on Thursday before the secretary of All India Congress committee-cum-additional in-charge of state Congress and MLA of Chattisgarh Devendra Yadav. In the incident, one Congress worker was seriously injured while several others sustained minor injuries. Yadav was at Ara to attend an organisational meeting at the local party office. Supporters of a prominent leader of Congress who wants to contest the election this year made some comment on another prominent leader who is also in race for the ticket. Verbal altercation increased between both groups, leading to exchange of blows. One party worker, Sunil Kumar Singh of Nawada mohalla under Ara Nawada police station, sustained serious head injury while many others sustained minor injuries. Sunil Kumar Singh said he was assaulted while he was trying to mediate to pacify the situation. Asked about the fight, Devendra Yadav said local Congress activists and officials told him that those involved in the fight were not activists of Congress. "They were outsiders. Administration had not provided proper security," he alleged. Most of the local Congress officials avoided to make any statement. However, one on condition of anonymity said the fighting took place between two prominent leaders of the party who wanted to contest the election....
