BETTIAH, June 20 -- An elderly woman was charred to death and four others were injured - three of them critically - after an e-rickshaw in which they were travelling caught fire in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district on Thursday morning, police said. According to Md. Nazare Imam, officer-in-charge of Gaighat police station, seven members of a family were on their way to a wedding ceremony in Madhubani from Muzaffarpur when the incident occurred near Beruwa village on the Muzaffarpur-Darbhanga stretch of NH-27. "One of the occupants, whose body was charred and mutilated beyond recognition, was extricated from the vehicle. Four others were admitted to Shree Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for treatment," the officer added. The deceased was identified as 52-year-old Kamrul Nesa, a resident of Muzaffarpur. Sajid Hussain, the e-rickshaw driver and son of the deceased, said, "My mother was unwell. After she recovered, I was taking her to attend a wedding. Just after we passed the toll plaza, the battery suddenly caught fire. She died on the spot due to the explosion. Four others sustained burn injuries, while two were rescued by passersby and locals." Video footage from the spot showed the e-rickshaw engulfed in flames before it was reduced to a mangled wreck. Dr. Satish Kumar Singh, superintendent of SKMCH, said that the condition of three of the four injured was critical. "Four people were brought in with burn injuries. Of them, Sabina Khatoon, Md Sarfaraz, and Jebika Khatoon have sustained over 50% burns and are in serious condition," he said....
