One dies, eight injured in lightning strikes in East Champaran, say Officials
BETTIAH, Sept. 1 -- A middle-aged curd seller was killed and eight others were injured in separate lightning strikes in Bihar's East Champaran on Sunday, officials said.
In the first incident, the victim, identified as 45-year-old Heera Yadav, died after being struck by lightning at Goitaha village in Harsidihi block.
Two others, Nagina Paswan and Ramayan Hazara, sustained injuries.
"Yadav had set out to sell curd and took shelter in a roadside hut with two others when lightning struck nearby, leaving one dead and two injured," said Arvind Kumar Choudhary, circle officer (CO), Harsidihi.
He added that ex-gratia compensation would be provided to the deceased's family as per rules.
In another incident, six people were injured when lightning struck two houses at Machhargawa village in Kotwa, confirmed Kotwa Circle Officer (CO) Monica Anand, adding that they have been hospitalised and are receiving necessary medical treatment....
