Nitish to transfer hiked pension to over 11mn beneficiaries today
Patna, July 11 -- After announcing hike in social security pension, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday would be transferring increased pension amount of Rs.1,100 via direct benefit transfer (DBT) into the bank accounts of 1.11 crore beneficiaries entitled to get pension under six social security schemes.
An amount of more than Rs.1,227 crore is to be disbursed among the beneficiaries under pension schemes being run by the state government with a view to giving social security to them. This is the first time when pension amount has been almost tripled to Rs.1,100 per month from the existing Rs.400. It has been made applicable from the month of June and the beneficiaries would get the increased pension from July itself.
"Ensuring that every section and class of society in the state receives their full rights and respect has been our priority from the beginning. Tomorrow (Friday) is a day of great joy for a large population of the state. You know that the social security pension amount has been increased from Rs.400 to Rs.1,100, and on Friday through DBT, an amount of Rs.1,227.27 crore will be transferred at the increased rate to the accounts of more than 1.11 crore beneficiaries in the state. We want all of you to remain healthy and happy, and that is why I have instructed the health department to ensure that all of you are provided with the Ayushman Bharat card so that, in case of illness, you can receive proper treatment free of cost," tweeted CM Nitish Kumar on Thursday in Hindi.
Social welfare department of Bihar government runs six different pension schemes for old age people, widowed women and differently abled persons - Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, Mukhyamantri Vridhjan Pension Yojana, Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme, Lakshmibai Social Security Pension Scheme, Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme and Bihar State Disability Pension Scheme.
The highest number of beneficiaries in all the six pension schemes are in Madhubani district. A total of Rs.61.08 crore will be disbursed among 5,53,848 beneficiaries in the district while Rs.57.94 crore will be distributed among 5,26,339 beneficiaries in Patna which stands at second spot. East Champaran is at third place where Rs.57.18 crore will be distributed among 5,17,711 beneficiaries.
Total Rs.52.12 crore among 4.73 lakh beneficiaries in Samastipur, Rs.49.06 crore among 4.45 lakh beneficiaries in Gaya, Rs.46.96 crore among 4.24 lakh beneficiaries in Darbhanga and Rs.46.17 crore among 4.19 lakh beneficiaries in Saran district will be disbursed on the launch day.
On the other hand, there are districts such as Sheikhpura, Sheohar, Arwal which have comparatively less number of beneficiaries. With 71,971 beneficiaries, Sheikhpura has the lowest number of beneficiaries among whom Rs.7.95 crore would be distributed....
