PATNA, Sept. 9 -- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday carried out raids in Bihar's Katihar district in connection with a case linked to terror related funding. Six houses were raided, including those of Mohammad Iqbal and Mohammad Rizbul, both of whom had cases registered against them in January. Iqbal was taken into custody from Sukhasan village. His family was served a notice informing them of his detention. He had previously been booked under the Arms Act. Rizbul is currently lodged in jail. Iqbal's brother Wasik, a CSP operator, confirmed that their house was raided and that the NIA handed the family a written notice. Officials familiar with the matter said searches underway were conducted at the homes of Noor Alam, Hashim, Nizam and Iqbal in the localities of Durgapur, Sukhasan and Balughat. A mobile phone and SIM card belonging to Noor Alam were also seized. In another development one Mohammad Mutalib, a native of Katihar, was arrested from Surat in Gujarat. Mutalib's brother Israfil confirmed that his brother was arrested. A NIA team also searched his native place but nothing found. "My brother who works in Surat was arrested. NIA team served a notice in this regard at my house. My brother was arrested for what, the agency could not divulge," he added. The Katihar operation formed part of a coordinated series of raids across five states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. Nine locations were searched in Jammu and Kashmir, while eight locations were targeted in Bihar. According to officials, the raids were based on intelligence inputs about terrorist conspiracy, funding, arms supply network, financial links behind a bomb attack at a Gurugram club and were aimed at disrupting terror funding networks and preventing potential attacks. Officials reported recovering several electronic devices, suspicious financial records, and other documents during the operation.
