PATNA, May 11 -- Malsalami police on Saturday busted a newborn trafficking racket and rescued a kidnapped infant following the arrest of five persons, including three women and a nurse. The police also recovered Rs.2.60 lakh in cash, eight mobile phones, and several bank passbooks during the operation. The case began on May 7, 2025, when Malsalami police received a written complaint alleging that Anita Devi and Renu Kumari-residents near Badi Nagla Mazar in Malsalami-along with an unidentified man, had kidnapped and sold a newborn baby. A case was registered the same day, and an investigation was launched, "said DSP-2 Patna City, Dr. Gaurav Kumar. A special police team was formed, and using technical and scientific methods, the team arrested Anita Devi alias Gaudi Littie and Renu Kumari from their rented house in Jayprakash Nagar under the jurisdiction of Jakkanpur police station. Vijay Kumar of Kailuchak, Masaurhi, was also arrested near Patna Sahib railway station as he attempted to flee. Police recovered Rs.62,000 in cash from his possession during the raid. Based on their statements, police raided a house in Nawratnagar, Kankarbagh, and arrested a nurse Shobha Devi, along with Shashi Jaiswal of PC Colony, Kankarbagh.
