PATNA, May 6 -- The Bihar police in last 12 hours arrested three persons -- two from Samastipur and one from Araria, including a MBBS doctor posted with Begusarai district jail, for their alleged involvement in an impersonation racket linked to the 2025 NEET UG Exam. The racket targeted aspiring medical students willing to pay substantial amounts for guaranteed admission. The accused charged between Rs.2 lakh and Rs.5 lakh per candidate. The syndicate manipulates admit cards and employs proxy candidates to take the NEET. Samastipur SP Ashok Mishra confirming their arrest said that police have recovered a Car, Rs.50,000 cash and three cell phones from their possession. The arrested people were interrogated thoroughly. "The arrested were identified as -- Dr Ranjit Kumar, a native of Samastipur district while his associate Ram Babu Mallick, a resident of Laheriasarai in Dharbhanga district were taken into custody from Mohanpur police station late on Sunday while they were travelling in a car suspiciously. Police have found objectionable documents like Admit cards, Aadhaar cards, signature samples and pictures of some NEET aspirants from their cell phones," said Mishra, adding that police have evidences that arrested persons have hired impersonators as a proxy candidates for sit in the NEET exams on behalf of real candidates. Samastipur police said that police have got an input that group members were roaming in a car in and around the examination centres to manage proxy candidates on behalf of real students. Acting on a tip-off, Samastiour police constituted a four-member SIT under the leadership of additional SP-cum-Samastiour SDPO Sanjay Kumar Pandey. The SIT managed to nab them while travelling in a car from Muffasil police station area. During interrogation, they confessed that they are members of an impersonation racket, who hire impersonators to appear before the competitive exams and secure higher marks for selection. They confessed that they forged signatures of the real candidate morphed their pictures to make them appear as proxy candidates. "After scanning of their cell phones and WhatsApp, police found evidences of audio and chatting between accused and other suspects. Police have also evidence of money transaction between the master mind and gang members. Investigation revealed that Dr Ranjit arranged four NEET aspirants and handed over them to the Ram Babu Mallick, who forwarded the details to the mastermind. Police were trying to collect details of aspirants whose pictures and admit cards were found in the recovered cell phones. The police were also trying to know whether they appeared in the exam through unfair means or not," said the SDPO Sanjay Kumar Pandey, adding that an FIR has been registered against the accused under sections of 319(2)/318(4)/338/336(3)/340(2) and 61 (2) of BNS. The SIT suspects that some kind of deal took place between Dr Ranjeet, Ram Babu Mallick and others for the proxy racket. The details of the deal and financial promises made prior to the exam are under investigation. The SIT said that the duo is being quizzed to find out if they assisted other candidates as well in the another exams. The Economic Offence Unit (EOU) also arrested one SK Faiz from Islampur, Araria, before the exam for trying to lure candidates through telegram channel with a promise of making available NEET elquestion papers. EOU DIG Manavjit Singh Dhillon said that the information about promise of NEET questions through telegram channel reached EOU on May 4 itself and Faiz was caught before he could succeed in his operation....
