NEET aspirant's death: Family alleges 'effort to hush up case'
PATNA, Jan. 31 -- The mystery shrouding the death of a teenaged medical aspirant girl deepened further on Friday, as the family members alleged "continued attempts to derail the probe and not catch the culprits" after meeting Bihar director general of police Vinay Kumar at the latter's residence.
With no breakthrough in the case even 25 days after the girl was found unconscious in her hostel room in Patna, the DGP called the parents of the girl at his residence in the presence of the officials of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and police. After the meeting, the mother of the girl lost her cool as she came out of the DGP residence. "They are all trying to hush up the case. The girl will not get justice, as nobody is interested in that. There seems to be money play and we won't succumb to money," an agitated girl's mother told mediapersons outside DGP's residence in state capital.
The victim's brother said that at the meeting with the DGP, his mother was told to accept the case as that of suicide. The girl's mother was so agitated after the meeting that she was not ready to go anywhere after that. "They say Samrat Choudhary is calling us. What will we do to meet with him? We only want justice," she added.
The victim's father reiterated that justice was eluding her daughter and there was no hope. "We had come for justice. We thought the DGP saheb would share some information, but they have their mind set. Right from the outset, there has been an attempt to hush up the matter and all kinds of theories were floated to malign us," he added.
With the victim's family refusing to meet the Deputy CM, Choudhary called Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, DGP and SSP Kartikeya K Sharma to his residence to review the matter, which might cause embarrassment to the government during the Budget session starting Monday.
The SIT, probing the case, on the other hand, is banking on the phone data, including by Snapchat, of the girl and is analysing it. A police officer said that three suspects were on the radar.
However, the turn of events since the recovery of the girl in unconscious state from her hostel room on January 5, medical, post mortem and forensic reports establishing sexual assault have complicated the matter and the police have not answered those questions.
A senior police officer, who did not want to be quoted, said that it was a classic case of "shoddy policing" all through, as nobody knows what happened to the evidences from January 6-9. "The FIR was lodged by the family on January 9 and after that the police started acting. In a medico-legal case, the police should have acted as soon as it got information," he added.
Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan popularly known as Pappu Yadav has already raised the matter in the Parliament premises and again categorically said that there was an attempt to derail the probe to protect the high and mighty, while the RJD has been backing the family demand for CBI probe into the incident. On Friday, the girls of the Patna University also took to the streets and took out a 'Beti Bachao Nyay March' from Magadh Mahila College to Kargil Chowk. "Samrat Choudhary, give protection to daughters. Demand for CBI probe into medical aspirant's death," read the posters and slogans....
