PATNA, July 11 -- The Supreme Court decision to allow the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar to continue has sparked reactions from various political quarters, with the ruling alliance seeing it as a validation of their stance whereas the opposition Mahagathbhandan seeing it as their victory after the SC observed that Aadhaar card, voter ID and ration cards could be considered during the SIR in Bihar. Welcoming the SC decision, Bihar deputy CM Vijay Sinha criticised the opposition for claiming to have faith in the constitution while allegedly insulting constitutional institutions. "We welcome the decision of the honourable court, we have faith in it. On the one hand, they (opposition) claim to have faith in the constitution; on the other hand, they insult constitutional institutions... Why do they insult constitutional institutions? This is very unfortunate," said Sinha. "For the politics of appeasement, Congress and RJD people, who allowed illegal entry of Bangladeshis in Bihar, now want to nurture them. Where did the Election Commission say that Indian citizens will have to provide documents? ...These 15-20% people who have entered Bihar illegally have tarnished Bihar and created an atmosphere of anarchy. Congress-RJD is standing in their favour. This is unfortunate. The EC is doing its work with complete transparency," he said. Deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary said that the Supreme Court allowing the EC to continue with SIR was a welcome step and its implementation was necessary to ensure that only Indian citizens were enrolled. "We welcome the Supreme Court decision. No one interferes with the work of the Election Commission. We give suggestions. The SC is of the view that Aadhar, PAN card and ration card could be considered in SIR," Chowdhary said. He said it was clear that Aadhar details would have to be given as per the previous format. Opposition RJD called the decision a victory of crores of voters of Bihar. "The SC decision is a victory for crores of voters of Bihar. It has given guidelines to the Election Commission. Thanks to the Supreme Court that it has suggested to consider adding Aadhar card, voter card and ration card to the documents. It was the demand of the Grand Alliance and Tejashwi Yadav that the number of documents be increased. So I think the court's order is a victory for crores of people of Bihar. We had demanded that the basket of documents be increased and the SC has given this suggestion to the Election Commission," said RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha. Dipankar Bhattacharya, General Secretary of the CPI(ML) said the SC had taken note of the fundamental constitutional and legal anomalies and improprieties underlying the EC's sudden SIR campaign in Bihar and also the logistical issues and inconvenience being experienced by common voters. "In this sense the Supreme Court order corroborates the basic fears and objections of the electorate reflected in the bunch of petitions being heard by the apex court. The SC advice given to the EC to include Aadhaar, voter card and ration card in the acceptable list of documents 'in the interest of justice' voices the common demand of every voter on the ground," he said. The Congress said the SC suggestion that the EC should allow Aadhaar cards, voter-ID cards and ration cards in the SIR of the electoral rolls in Bihar had come as a 'relief for democracy'. Congress general secretary, organisation, KC Venugopal pointed out that the apex court would hear the case again later this month, while expressing hope that EC would go with the court's suggestion. "Basically, it is a relief for democracy. The case is again fixed for the 28th of this month," Venugopal told reporters, when asked about the court's suggestion....
