Murder accused out on bail gunned down
SAMASTIPUR, July 26 -- In a chilling reminder of the sensational killing of history-sheeter Chandan Mishra inside a Patna hospital, a 22-year-old man out on bail in a murder case was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Samastipur district on Thursday evening, police said.
Police said the deceased has been identified as Sumit Kumar, also known as Guddu or Mahakal, a resident of Hasanpur Jitwarpur (Ward No. 15) under the Mufassil police station area in Samastipur. The shooting took place in the Petia Bazaar locality while Sumit was waiting on a motorcycle as his friend went to buy vegetables.
"Preliminary investigations suggest that Sumit had gone to the market with a friend when he was attacked by unknown assailants. He sustained bullet injuries and was immediately rushed to the Sadar Hospital in Samastipur, where doctors declared him dead," said DSP (Sadar) Sanjay Kumar Pandey.
Sumit was recently released on bail, just three months ago, in connection with a murder case. Authorities suspect the killing may have stemmed from a personal rivalry linked to that earlier crime. "The exact motive is yet to be established, but personal enmity appears to be a strong angle," the DSP added. Currently, the deceased was working in a garage.
Following the incident, police secured the crime scene and informed the Forensic Science Laboratory's mobile team for detailed examination. The body was sent for autopsy in the presence of family members....
