Muharram devotees come in contact with live wire; 1 killed, 10 injured
SASARAM, June 29 -- A youth was killed and at least 10 others injured, six of them critically, when flag pole of a Muharram procession came in contact with an 11,000 volt live electric wire at Nimia Tikari of Akbarpur market under Rohtas police station on Friday evening.
The procession was taken out on the first day of Muharram in which hundreds of people from Akbarpur and adjacent villages were participating, dodging the continuous rains on the hilly place, police said.
The deceased was identified as Ismail Khan (22) of Idrisi Mahalla. Critically injured Afzal Khan, Azam Khan, Hasan Raja, Namir Khan and two others of Daranagar were admitted to sadar hospital at Sasaram where their condition was out of danger, Rohtas SP Raushan Kumar said.
Angry people of the community closed Akbarpur market, blocked the Rohtas-Dehri state highway, burnt tyres and sat on dharna on the road demanding registration of a murder case against the local BDO, circle officer and electricity officials for not providing security during the procession.
They alleged that power supply was not stopped during the procession even after informing about it in advance. But Banjari power sub-station's junior engineer Kislay Kumar said no application regarding the procession route and cutting the power supply was given to the power station.
Rohtas SHO inspector Nikunj Bhushan Prasad and later the SDM and sub-divisional police officer Dehri reached and tried to pacify the mob and clear the road but they did not agree....
