Move against cyber fraud
PATNA, Sept. 16 -- The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will launch a mobile number validation (MNV) service from December, senior telecom officers said in Patna on Monday.
The MNV is a centralised, real-time validation system that will allow authorised entities such as telecom operators, banks, payment services to verify if a mobile number is authentic, active and registered with a licensed service provider.
"The MNV is designed to tackle SIM-swap and mobile number portability fraud, impersonation, account takeovers, and the use of spoofed numbers in digital transactions," said Surya Prakash, dyDG (security), DoT, Bihar, at 60th foundation day celebrations of the Indian Telecommunications Service (ITS) at in the Bihar capital....
