More than 100 trafficking victims rescued under 'Op Naya Savera'
PATNA, Aug. 19 -- As many as 112 victims, including 64 minors and seven women, hailing from underprivileged families of Nepal, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Jharkhand were rescued by Bihar police under 'Operation Naya Savera' between July 31 and August 14, officials aware of the developments said.
Additional director general (Weaker Section of CID) Amit Kumar Jain on Monday told media persons that the operation was launched with the help of anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU), government railway police (GRP) and NGOs. The victims were rescued from orchestra/theatre group, brothels and child labour. "During this period, the police arrested fifty traffickers, including 28 male and 22 female accused, registered 24 separate FIRs under sections of BNS, JJ act, Child labour, immoral trafficking and POCSO act against them and sent to judicial custody," said the ADG, adding Saran was top in the state for rescuing 29 minors from orchestra/theatre groups while Patna was second in the rescuing of 23 child labourers.
The ADG said since January, raids were conducted across districts and various cases related to human trafficking came to light. During this period, 329 FIRs had been registered, while 1,016 victims, including 217 minors, 77 women and 722 boys had been rescued from the clutches of traffickers. Police also arrested 250 traffickers including 197 men, 53 women and forwarded them to judicial custody.
In 2021, the weaker section established a counselling cell and till August 17, this year, over 157 applications related to family disputes have been received and 142 cases have been settled. Around 56 cases of family dispute have been settled through mutual agreement. Jain further said a help desk has been set up to address discrimination against transgender women from the weaker sections. To facilitate their access to police station level by resolving their cases, the women helplines already established in 855 police stations have been given the additional responsibility of functioning as trans women helpdesk....
