Modi unveils Rs.8.2k cr projects in U'khand
Dehradun, Nov. 10 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of 31 development projects worth Rs.8,260.72 crore during the statehood silver jubilee celebrations in Dehradun. The projects cover key sectors including irrigation, energy, infrastructure, tourism, education, and health.
Of the total, foundation stones were laid for 19 projects worth Rs.7,329.06 crore, while 12 completed projects worth Rs.931.65 crore were inaugurated.
Officials aware of the matter said among the major projects for which the foundation stone was laid are the Song Dam Drinking Water Project, costing Rs.2,491.96 crore, and the Jamrani Dam Project, estimated at Rs.2,584.10 crore. The Song Dam Project, proposed in Dehradun and Tehri districts, will supply 150 MLD of drinking water to Dehradun city through the construction of a 130-metre-high dam. The Jamrani Dam Project in Nainital district is a multipurpose scheme that will meet drinking water and irrigation needs, in addition to generating 14 MW of power and irrigating over 57,000 hectares of land.
Officials said other major works include landslide and flood protection projects along the Alaknanda and Kali rivers, construction of a 400 kV Pipalkoti Switching Substation and transmission lines, and multiple substations in Ghansali and Banbasa.
In addition, the Prime Minister laid the foundation for projects aimed at improving medical infrastructure, including night shelters for patient attendants in Dehradun and Haldwani and the construction of a sub-district hospital in Khanpur. Urban and rural water supply schemes, a modern dairy plant in Lalkuan with a capacity of 1.5 lakh litres per day, and agricultural development initiatives in Pauri Garhwal were also among the projects launched.
The inaugurated projects worth Rs.931.65 crore include a 220/33 kV substation and associated transmission lines in Dharchula, a 132 kV Bindal-Purkul transmission line in Dehradun, and the Dehradun Water Supply Scheme under the AMRUT 1.0 programme. Infrastructure expansion under the Public Works Department, drinking water schemes in multiple districts, landslide remediation and flood protection works, and construction of a precision manufacturing workshop under the Skill Development Department were also inaugurated. A new Astroturf hockey ground at Haldwani Stadium in Nainital district was among the completed projects unveiled during the event.
The state's renewable energy capacity will get a boost through the installation of solar power plants in government buildings across districts (Rs.129.37 crore). Another major energy project, the 220 kV Substation (100 MVA) and associated transmission line in Banbasa, Champawat, will be built at a cost of Rs.223.71 crore.
In the field of sports, a Women's Sports College will be set up in Lohaghat, Champawat, at a cost of Rs.256.96 crore to enhance training and sports opportunities for women athletes. The Public Works Department will take up construction works for eight projects under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund and two under the State Plan (Rs.127.43 crore)....
