Modi rallies in Magadh and Shahabad on Nov 7 to regain lost ground of NDA
SASARAM/GAYA JI, Nov. 6 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address two election rallies at Bhabua and Aurangabad in Shahabad and Magadh regions on November 7. This is the region where the Opposition's Grand Alliance has gained upper hand in recent years while it used to be an NDA stronghold earlier.
The NDA was almost wiped out from this region in the 2020 assembly elections and had won only eight out of 48 seats. The five districts of Magadh region -- Aurangabad, Gaya, Jehanabad, Arwal and Nawada -- have 26 assembly seats. The NDA won only 6 (4 in Gaya district) in the last elections. The alliance failed to open its account in Aurangabad, Jehanabad and Arwal.
Similarly in 22 assembly segments in four districts of old Shahabad -- Kaimur, Rohtas, Buxar and Bhojpur -- the NDA could win two seats, Ara and Barhara in Bhojpur district. It was wiped out in Kaimur, Rohtas and Buxar.
Wooing Shahabad and Magadh is crucial to form an NDA government in Bihar. The PM on November 2 had held an election rally in Nawada, appealing to the people of Nawada, Arwal and Jehanabad to ensure the alliance's victory in assembly elections. Voting for 10 seats in these districts and 11 seats in Bhojpur and Buxar districts of Shahabad, will take place in the first phase on November 6. Altogether 27 seats in Gaya, Aurangabad, Kaimur and Rohtas will go to poll in the second phase on November 11. Counting of votes will take place in the state on November 14.
Magadh region, famous for producing the renowned Magahi Paan (betel leaf), has a cultural connection with PM's constituency Varanasi. Varanasi is world famous for its Magahi Paan, considered the best variety of betel produced in Magadh and processed and marketed in Varanasi.
