Jamshedpur, Oct. 25 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled an aggressive campaign for the Ghatshila by-election, scheduled for November 11, fielding its West Bengal heavyweights, including film star Mithun Chakraborty and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, to woo voters in the border constituency through roadshows and back-to-back rallies, party insiders said on Friday. "Mithun Chakraborty will hold a roadshow in Ghatshila town, while LoP Suvendu Adhikari will be holding a few election rallies. Central ministers Sukanta Majumdar and G Kishan Reddy will also address rallies in Ghatshila. MLAs Agnimitra Paul, Locket Chatterjee, and a few more leaders from Bengal will address rallies in the Ghatshila assembly constituency, which shares its border with West Bengal," Abhay Singh, BJP organisation in-charge for the Ghatshila bypoll, told HT on Friday. Singh said that Union minister of coal and mines G Kishan Reddy would address election rallies in Ghatshila and Jadugora areas, which house copper and uranium mines. "He will highlight the ongoing and upcoming development projects and mining-related issues in the region. The recent approval of at least three copper mines - Chapri, Rakha, and Kendadih of the HCL-ICC - is expected to be in focus in his rallies, especially in terms of employment generation," added Singh. To jog the reader's memory, Chakraborty had held a roadshow in support of BJP candidate Babulal Soren during the 2014 Jharkhand assembly elections. "Ghatshila, which has a 45% tribal population, of which 70-75% are Santhals, also has about 25,000-30,000 Bengalis. Around 70-75% of the voters are Bengali-speaking, as Kudmis (Mahato) and sections of tribals also speak Bengali. The leaders, particularly Mithun Chakraborty and Suvendu Adhikari, can influence the Bengali-speaking voters," Singh said. The BJP has announced a list of 40 star campaigners, including Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former Jharkhand chief ministers Babulal Marandi, Arjun Munda, Raghubar Das, Madhu Koda, and Champai Soren, MP Bidyut Baran Mahato, state BJP executive president Aditya Sahu, and several other prominent leaders. Aditya Sahu has been camping in Ghatshila. "The programmes and date-wise itinerary of the star campaigners will be finalised after the Chhath festival. State executive president Aditya Sahu will be camping in Ghatshila till the last day of campaigning on November 9," added Singh....
