PURNIA, Aug. 23 -- Five people, including a minor girl, lost their lives in a drowning incident in Purnia district on Friday afternoon, police said. Police further said that the incident occurred in a bid to save a 9-year-old girl who slipped into the Kari Kosi river while attending the nature's call. Local divers fished out their bodies and later their bodies were sent for autopsy. The deceased have been identified as Gouri Kumari (9), Sulochana Devi (30), Shekhar Kumar (21), Karan Kumar (21) and Sachin Kumar (18) -- all residents of Subhashnagar Ward 24 falling under the jurisdiction of Kasba police station. After getting information, Purnia district magistrate (DM) Anshul Kumar and superintendent of police (SP) Sweety Sahrawat rushed to the site and assured the bereaved families of all possible assistance.
