PURNIA, May 22 -- Three persons, including a 13-year-old girl, were killed in separate lightning strike incidents in Bihar's Kosi and Seemanchal regions within 24 hours. Two died in Supaul while one lost his life in Araria, police said on Wednesday. A -13-year-old Sakshi Kumari, a resident of Bhagkohalia under Forbesganj police station in Araria district, was killed when she was struck by lightning at her home in her bid to protect her goat from rains. She was a student of Class VI. Two goats were also killed. "We soon rushed her to Forbesganj sub-divisional hospital where the doctor declared her dead," father Arun Mandal said. Two persons, identified as 21-year-old Rupesh Kumar, a resident of Ganeshpur under Triveniganj police station, and 57-year-old Mohd Mustfa, a resident of Bauraha under Karjain police station (both of Supual district), died in lightning strike on Tuesday evening during torrential rains. Rupesh was a mason in Jammu and Kashmir and had returned in the wake of mounting tension between India and Pakistan. He had got married three years ago. Mustfa was returning to his home with milk when lightning struck him and he died instantly. "Family members refused to conduct the postmortem," police said. Meanwhile, postmortem of the two bodies were conducted and later they were handed over to their families for conducting the last rites. Police said after the probe, the report would be submitted so that the bereaved families could get financial aid as per the norms of the government. In April this year, 80 people were killed in devastating thunderstorms and lightning strikes in Bihar. The disaster management department had described it as calamitous.
