Maoists torch mobile tower to disrupt comm system in west singhbhum distt
Jamshedpur, Oct. 13 -- Days after a CRPF jawan was martyred and two more officers were grievously injured in IED blasts late Friday evening, CPI (Maoist) extremists burnt down a mobile tower and the generator set at Kolbonga village in West Singhbhum district in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
According to officials, a 20-member armed group of Maoists targeted the mobile tower, generator, and the system to disrupt the communication network in the dense hilly jungles of remote areas in the Saranda Reserve Forest, aiming to hamper ongoing police operations.
"This is being viewed as part of their subversive acts during the Maoist protest week from October 8 to 14, against the series of killings of top Maoist commanders in encounters by the security forces in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh in recent times. They have called a bandh in these states on October 15," an official said.
Meanwhile, police said that the two injured officers, Inspector Kaushal Kumar Mishra and ASI Ramkrishna Gagrai, brother of MLA Dashrath Gagrai, have been shifted to Delhi AIIMS due to their critical condition.
Officials said that the left leg of Kaushal Kumar Mishra has to be amputated below the knee, while Ramkrishna Gagrai has sustained serious injuries to his left eye, face, and hands.
"The Maoist team that burnt down the mobile tower and generator set at Kolbonga village has been identified, and our operation is ongoing against them. As for the two injured CRPF officials, they are both now undergoing treatment in Delhi," Amit Renu, West Singhbhum superintendent of police (SP), told HT on Sunday.
Asked about the amputation of Kaushal Kumar Mishra's leg, the SP said that it was unfortunate. "We have to bear and endure such unfortunate losses during our operations against extremists and such elements. As for Gagrai, thankfully, his injuries are not so serious, and there has been no grave injury to his limbs," added the SP.
Kaushal Kumar Mishra originally hailed from Muzaffarpur in Bihar. Martyred head constable Mahendra Lashkar was from Kuwar Ati village in Nagaon district, Assam....
