PATNA, June 8 -- A wanted Maoist area commander of Bihar, carrying a reward of Rs.3 lakh on his head, surrendered before senior officials on Saturday, police said. Active in Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, the area commander, identified as Rawan Koda of Kajra police station area in Lakhisarai district, surrendered in the presence of Lakhisarai SP and STF officials. ADG (headquarters) Kundan Krishnan, who is also additional charge of ADG (Operations) told HT that Koda and his team members were involved in cop's murder and arms loot case in Dhanbad-Patna Intercity Express near Kundar Halt between Asansol-Patna in 2013. Koda evading arrest since 15 years is wanted in 28 Maoist-related cases lodged in Munger, Lakhisarai and Jamui districts. He was also involved in the firing on the house of Dharmveer Yadav in 2022 before his abduction besides kidnapping of a PDS dealer's son from Pidibazar in Lakhisarai, and encounter with police teams. He also played a key role in the abduction of eight labourers engaged in a construction at Haveli Kharagpur in Munger in 2018 and torching seven vehicles. In 2021, he along with his armed squad killed a newly elected Azimganj Mukhia Parmanand Tuddu in Munger. Explaining the reasons for surrendering, the rebel said they were disillusioned with 'hollow' Maoist ideology and violence being committed by them. "With enhanced security deployment in forest and hilly areas of Jamui and Lakhisarai, life was miserable in the forest. We were ill-treated by our seniors," said Koda. "This surrender has sent out a positive message among the people, especially those living in rural areas under the shadow of Left wing activities," said Krishnan, adding that they would be provided assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation policy of the state government. Meanwhile, Jamui police with the help of STF arrested a woman Maoist Sarita Soren alias Sita Soren from Chandramandi police station area.
