Many in Bihar hunt for papers they don't have
Hajipur/Saran/Danapur/Patna, July 12 -- Jitender Kumar is on a mission. As the booth level officer (BLO) in Patna's Danapur, the schoolteacher is forever fending off questions on the ongoing special intensive revision. "There are so many questions and no one can give all the right answers," says Kumar.
He is one of 78,000-odd BLOs who are the backbone of the novel but controversial exercise. HT reviewed 60-odd forms across three districts, and found that photocopies of Aadhaar and voter IDs were the primary documents attached. At least five BLOs confirmed that the number of forms collected is high because many are coming back without any documents. People reported confusion and apprehension about the verification process, which is set to begin after the draft roll is released on August 1.
Of the documents affixed, the residence and caste certificates were the most popular. Many of the 11 approved documents simply don't exist for most villagers.P4...
