BHABUA, Oct. 16 -- A 30-year-old man was shot dead by a drug peddler in the heart of Bhabua, the district headquarters of Kaimur, on Wednesday afternoon, police said. The deceased, identified as Ram Lal Chaudhary, was shot in the chest by Sheru Miyan of Chhawani locality while he was sitting at a common meeting place, according to his brother Dilip Chaudhary. Following the incident, Ram Lal was rushed to the nearby Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Soon after, angry locals blocked the main road near Ekta Chowk with the body, alleging that the area had turned into a hub for illegal drugs where heroin, liquor, and other contraband were being openly sold under police watch. They demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and compensation for the victim's family. The blockade caused massive traffic disruption, particularly affecting schoolchildren, as buses and vans were unable to take them home after school hours. Many anxious parents rushed to schools to pick up their children themselves. The blockade was lifted after Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Manoranjan Bharti reached the spot with a heavy police force and assured the agitators of swift action. Police also used mild force to disperse the mob before sending the body for post-mortem. A murder case has been registered, and raids are underway to arrest the named accused, Sheru Miyan, who is reportedly involved in drug peddling, the SDPO said. Preliminary investigation suggests that the deceased was also linked to the drug network and that the murder may have resulted from a dispute over money distribution, a police officer added....
