DARBHANGA, July 11 -- What began as a trivial dispute over a wandering chicken reportedly escalated into a shocking act of violence in Bihar's Darbhanga district, leaving one man with his nose cut off and five others, including women and children, seriously injured. The unusual altercation unfolded in Kaligaon village under Singhwara police station on Tuesday, where a chicken belonging to Khushbuda Khatoon allegedly strayed into the courtyard of her neighbour, Esanul Jat. Enraged by the intrusion, Esanul reportedly killed the bird by snapping its neck - triggering a violent confrontation. According to the FIR lodged on July 9 by Khushbuda at Singhwara police station, her objection to the killing of chicken led to a brutal assault by Esanul and his family. Armed with sticks and sharp-edged weapons, the accused allegedly attacked Khushbuda's family members. In the attack, her husband Mohd Lalbabu had his nose slashed. Her daughter Roshni Parveen, son Mukkabir, and son-in-law Aftab also sustained serious injuries. All the injured were rushed to the Singhwara Primary Health Centre for treatment. Khushbuda also alleged that this was not the first instance of violence by Esanul's family, claiming past incidents of harassment and assault. Based on her complaint, an FIR has been registered against 11 individuals, including Mohd Esanul, Mohd Motiwul, Mohammad Hasibul, Mohd Azmain, Mohd Khair, Mohd Anutuzza, and Mohd Rizwan. Singhwara SHO Ranjit Chaudhary confirmed that an FIR was lodged on July 9 in this regard. He said on Thursday that a thorough investigation is underway.
