BETTIAH, June 4 -- A 25-year-old man who feared for his life and sought help from his brother was allegedly shot dead by armed criminals while returning from a wedding ritual in Bihar's East Champaran district, police said. Based on information from the victim's family, Chiraiya station house officer (SHO) Mahendra Kumar said the deceased, identified as Akash Kumar, was a resident of Ambariya village in Dhaka block. He was returning home from a Tilak ceremony in a neighbouring village near Paratapur Math around 10 pm on Monday when he was surrounded by criminals and sensed danger. "He called his brother for help. But before his family could rush to his rescue, he was shot dead by the criminals," the SHO quoted the victim's brother as saying. The body has been handed over to the family after the postmortem. Police said an investigation is underway....
