Man killed for uprooting bitter gourd plant in Rohtas
SASARAM, July 19 -- In a tragic incident, a farmer was brutally beaten to death on a petty issue of uprooting a bitter gourd plant on government land at Jagodih village under the jurisdiction of Amjhor police station in Rohtas district on Friday morning.
This is the second brutal murder within 24 hours in Amjhor police station area. Earlier on Thursday, JD-U youth wing Tilouthu block president Rakesh Kumar's father Parasnath Singh (55) was killed with a sharp weapon at Amra village.
In the current case, the police said that the deceased Virendra Singh (45) had closed his cloth shop due to losses and was doing farming at the village. His Pattidar (near relative) had planted a bitter gourd and a jackfruit plant on the empty government land on the side of NH 2C. The deceased accidentally uprooted the plants while cutting the grass on the same government land to make and dry cow dung cakes on Friday morning, police further said.
Angered by this, Arjun Singh and Alok Mehta attacked him fiercely with sticks. He was seriously injured and fainted due to severe beating, after which the attackers went fled. The family informed the police and took the injured to the local community health centre where the doctors declared him dead, police said.
Rohtas Superintendent of police (SP) Raushan Kumar said that a police team under Amjhor SHO Shyam Kumar was rushed to the place which took immediate action and arrested both the attackers and sent the body to Sadar Hospital, Sasaram for post-mortem examination.
Further action will be taken after registering a murder case on the application given by the family, the police official said....
