SITAMARHI, Dec. 8 -- In a span of just 24 hours, two separate shooting incidents left one man injured and another dead, in Bihar's Sitamarhi, amplifying concern over the district's deteriorating law and order. The first attack occurred on Saturday evening in Bairagnia, followed by a fatal shooting near Sarakhauli Chowk under Parsauni police station on Sunday afternoon, triggering public outrage. On Saturday, around 7.45 pm, two bike-borne assailants opened fire on 32-year-old motorcycle mechanic Jai Mahto at Avkaari chowk under Bairgania police station as he was returning home after closing his workshop. CCTV footage recovered by police shows two motorcycles riding close to each other on a poorly lit road before the pillion rider on one bike fires at the victim. The attacker is then seen getting off his motorcycle to shoot again before fleeing with his accomplice. Locals alerted Bairgania police, who rushed the victim to the community health centre, where doctors later confirmed his condition was stable. "During inspection, police recovered a countrymade pistol, a spent cartridge and a live bullet. One suspect has been arrested, while others are being traced", a press statement from Sitamarhi SP office said. Preliminary inquiry points to a business-related dispute between maternal uncle and nephew as the possible motive. The Sitamarhi SP office further said legal action was underway and efforts were on to identify and arrest the remaining accused. Meanwhile, less than 24 hours later, on Sunday afternoon, a youth identified as Mohd Kabir, a resident of Pandrahia village under Belsand police station, was shot dead on Belsand-Sarakhauli road near Sarakhauli Chowk in Parsauni police station area. Eyewitnesses said two assailants arrived on a motorcycle, fired at Kabir (40) from close range, and fled. The killing sparked massive outrage. Villagers blocked the Belsand-Parsauni main road for several hours by placing the body on the road, accusing the police of failing to control growing crime in the area. They demanded the presence of senior officers, immediate arrest of the killers, and compensation to Kabir's family. Parsauni police reached the spot and attempted to pacify the angry crowd. Officials assured that a thorough investigation was underway....
