ARA, Aug. 9 -- A man was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case of kidnapping and under provisions of the POCSO Act. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.30,000 on the convict. The judgment was delivered on Friday by Ashutosh Kumar Upadhyay, sixth additional district and sessions judge-cum-special POCSO court. Special public prosecutor for POCSO cases, Saroj Kumari, argued the case for the prosecution. According to the prosecution, the incident occurred under Charpokhari police station limits. The 13-year-old victim knew the accused as both families had earlier lived in Jamshedpur. On August 31, 2023, the accused persuaded the girl to show him her village and then suggested they go elsewhere to get some food. He allegedly took her to Jamshedpur in a vehicle and confined her in a room for two to three days, threatening her with a dagger. One day, when the accused forgot to lock the room, the girl escaped and sought help from a bus driver headed to Charpokhari. She told him she had no money to pay for the fare, but he dropped her there. Her uncle then lodged an FIR. During the trial, the prosecution examined eight witnesses. Based on the evidence, the court found Deepak Sharma, a resident of Sankosai under Mango police station in East Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, guilty and sentenced him to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and offences under the POCSO Act....
