PATNA, June 6 -- A speeding car struck and killed a couple in Bihar's Saharsa district on Tuesday, dragging the husband for three kilometres before the driver stopped to hide the body in the boot and then drove 14 kilometres to bury it, police said on Thursday.
Police have arrested one person who allegedly helped the accused to bury the body. The car, registered in the name of Anoj Kumar Singh - who had gifted it to his son-in-law - was driven by Keshav Kumar Singh, a cousin of the son-in-law, at the time of the incident.
The victims, Shyama Devi (55) and her husband Bharat Ram (60), were sitting near their roadside hut when the speeding car hit them. Devi died on the spot and her body was found, but Ram's disappearance triggered protests.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Himansu, who formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), said the SIT found that the car first stopped at Jivachhpur, where the driver tried to separate the body from the vehicle but was unable to do so. "Police recovered some body parts and clothes from the spot," he said....
