Maken set to lead Congress's national G RAM G Act stir
New Delhi, Jan. 5 -- The Congress has formed a coordination committee led by former Union minister Ajay Maken to "oversee, guide and monitor" the upcoming pan-India agitation or "MGNREGA bachao sangram" by the party.
Former rural development minister Jairam Ramesh, former MPs Sandip Dikshit and Udit Raj, Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge, Telangana minister Anasuya Seethakka, Jharkhand minister Deepika Pandey Singh and party leaders Sunil Panwar and Manish Sharma are the other members of the committee.
A press release issued by Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said the heads of all frontal organisations, along with chairpersons of AICC's OBC, SC, Adivasi and minorities departments and Kisan Congress would also be a part of the panel, which has been formed by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Venugopal and the party's communication chief Jairam Ramesh announced on Saturday that the 45-day agitation that will start from January 10, will be held in three phases.
In the last session of Parliament, the government initiated a new rural job scheme VB G Ram G that promises 125 days of work and virtually ended MGNREGA, the flagship job guarantee programme that started from 2005.
The bill became an Act on December 21 after President Droupadi Murmu's assent.
"The Congress will hold detailed discussions with all the opposition-ruled states, and fight together," the party general secretary said....
