SASARAM, Dec. 6 -- Lok Janshakti Party-RV Rohtas district president Kamlesh Rai was arrested on Friday for allegedly kidnapping and raping a 17-year-old girl. The 55-year-old Rai is also the mukhiya and PACS chairman of Mokar panchayat in Sasaram block. LJP-RV is a partner in the ruling coalition in Bihar. Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Sasaram-2, Kumar Vaibhav said the victim's mother had registered a kidnapping case against Kamlesh Rai at Sasaram Mufassil police station on November 12, alleging that her daughter had gone to coaching class and did not return home. She accused Kamlesh Rai of kidnapping her. The girl fled from the custody of Rai on November 15 and informed Mufassil police station that Rai had been establishing physical relations with her for a few years. On the fateful day, she was going to coaching when Rai forcibly picked her up on his SUV, kept at a secret place and raped her. The statement of the victim was also recorded by court. Her medical examination was conducted in Sadar Hospital, Sasaram, the SDPO said. Police added sections 4 and 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and section 64 (1) of BNS in the case for rape. Section 6 of the POCSO Act invites imprisonment not less than 20 years, which may extend to life imprisonment and death penalty as per gravity of the case.
