light to heavy rain lashes parts of state
Mussoorie, May 26 -- A light to heavy spell of rain, thunderstorm and lightning was experienced in Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts and at a few places in Uttarkashi, Tehri and Haridwar districts of Uttarakhand in the past 24 hours, while the remaining districts experienced a light to moderate spell of rain on Sunday, officials said.
The state recorded 11.8mm of rain in 24 hours till 8.30am on Sunday, with Bageshwar recording 39mm of rain, followed by 18.6mm in Nainital, 18.5mm in Rudraprayag district, 13.4mm in Pithoragarh, 11.9mm in Almora, 11.6mm in Tehri Garhwal, 9.9mm in Chamoli, 8.5mm in Uttarkashi district, and 7.3mm in Dehradun. According to district disaster management officials , Gopeshwar in Chamoli district around 6mm of rain was recorded till noon in Joshimath while Badrinath Dham also received light rain on Sunday.
The Char Dham yatra was running normally with all Char Dham yatra highways open for traffic, she added.
Loharkhet in Bageshwar district recorded 68mm of rain as per the data accumulated by the manual weather centre in the past 24 hours, said the IMD duty officer, while Kathgodam recorded 49.2mm and Sama recorded 45mm of rain.
Bikram Singh, IMD director, Dehradun centre, said, "The southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of west central and east central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, west central and north Bay of Bengal on Sunday."...
