Life term to mother, son for beheading pregnantwidow in Aurangabad
AURANGABAD, June 4 -- A man and his mother were sentenced to life imprisonment on Tuesday by the 7th Additional District and Sessions Judge of Aurangabad, Nishit Dayal, for the brutal murder of a pregnant widow.
The accused, Kaushal Kumar Das (40) and his mother Chandramani Devi, residents of Sohalpura village under the Goh police station area, were found guilty of killing and beheading Nilam Devi (37) on the night of June 21, 2022, additional public prosecutor Satyendra Kumar Singh said.
Nilam Devi, a resident of Charkawan village under Rafiganj police station, had lost her husband in 2016.
She later entered into a relationship with Kaushal Kumar, her distant relative.
She had an elder daughter who was married and three daughters aged 11, 10, and 8 when she became involved with Kaushal Kumar.
When Nilam Devi became pregnant and pressured Kaushal Kumar to marry her, the accused and his mother conspired to kill her, according to police.
On the day of the incident, Nilam Devi visited her paternal aunt's home in Japi village with her youngest daughter. On her return, she stayed at the accused's house in Sohalpura.
The mother and daughter slept in separate rooms.
The following morning, when the girl inquired about her mother, Chandramani Devi falsely claimed that she had fled away. The girl searched for her mother until a woman informed her that a woman's beheaded body, clad in a pink saree, had been found in the fields between Munjahad and Pandaki villages.
The girl identified the body, and Goh police found the head under a bush a few hundred meters away.
The mother and son were arrested and confessed to killing Nilam Devi and disposing of her head and torso separately to prevent her identification.
Police registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence against the mother and son based on the girl's statement.
A charge-sheet was filed, and oral and scientific evidence presented by investigating officer sub-inspector Shamim Ahmed secured the conviction.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs.50,000 on the accused and directed the Aurangabad District Legal Services Authority to fix compensation for the deceased's children under the Bihar Victim Compensation Scheme, 2014, the APP added.
