DARBHANGA, July 12 -- The court of additional district and sessions judge Suman Kumar Diwakar on Friday sentenced five accused to life imprisonment with rigorous punishment in a murder case, which took place in Lagama village under Sakatpur police station of Darbhanga district in 2016, civil court officials said. According to public prosecutor Amrendra Narayan Jha, victim Madan Mohan Choudhary, a native of Lagama village, was killed on the night of January 1, 2016. The crime was committed following a dispute over the appointment of a teacher at Shri Shankar Sanskrit Vidyalaya in Lagama. The accused had allegedly lured the victim to a secluded location and killed him before dumping his body. In an attempt to conceal the identity of the victim, the accused had reportedly mutilated the body and face of the deceased. Despite this, family members were able to identify the body based on clothing and a distinctive mark on the victim's arm. The case was registered under Sakatpur PS case no. 01/16. Those convicted include Sunil Kumar Jha of Balaur village under Manigachhi police station, and Kishor Kumar Chaudhary, Raghvendra Chaudhary, Dhruv Kumar Chaudhary, and Siddharth Shankar Chaudhary of Lagama village. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.1 lakh on each of the convicts. In case of non-payment of the fine, each will undergo an additional one-year imprisonment as per court order. After hearing arguments on sentencing from both the prosecution and the defence, the court awarded life imprisonment under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC, along with a fine of Rs.50,000, and life imprisonment under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) with an additional Rs.50,000 fine.
