Leaders sharpen attack on politically hectic Sunday
PATNA, June 30 -- Ahead of Bihar election, political parties and organisations have started flexing their muscles to exhibit their strength both within their alliances as well as outside, even as the BJP-led NDA and the RJD-led Opposition Alliance are trying to have a direct face off.
On Sunday, three senior leaders held public meetings, while Patna witnessed a congregation of Muslims against the Waqf board on a day AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi gave a call for united Opposition against the BJP to dislodge the government.
Union Minister and LJP-R president Chirag Paswan held a big show of strength with 'Bahujan Bhim Samagam' in Nalanda and Rajgir with an eye on 5.5% Dalit votes, especially Paswan community. He has already hinted his willingness to join Bihar election fray to establish himself as the state's Dalit leader, as BSP is also planning to jump into Bihar election.
"Every election, the Opposition tries to confuse people by raising issues like dangers to Constitution, democracy and reservation, but the reality is that they are themselves the biggest dangers to it. The Congress proved it during Emergency and people still remember the horror stories. Yet, the RJD is today supporting it. NDA has been in power for so long in Bihar as well as the Centre and it has never happened, nor it will ever happen," said Chirag.
Tejashwi Prasad Yadav is focussing on expanding his party base beyond Muslim-Yadav. On Sunday, he addressed the rally of Vaishya community in Patna to draw the community, traditionally known for backing the BJP, towards the RJD. He had addressed the youth just a day ago at 'Yuva Sansad' and has been targeting the Election Commission as well as BJP on electoral roll revision.
"The double engine government has done nothing for small traders. You all contributed in developing business and building society to usher in prosperity and now is time to build Bihar with your cooperation. NDA is also terrorising people in the name of 'jungle raj', but today the situation is worse. Bihar remains No. 1 in poverty, migration and unemployment. Even a sugar mill could not be started," he said at the Vaishya Sammelan, adding that he wanted to take everyone along and promised his government would set up Vaishya Ayog.
The third rally was of former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha, in Gaya in support of delimitation 'Samvaidhanik Ashikaar Pariseeman Audhaar Maharally'. He is said to have his eyes set on 4.2% Koeri community and wants to make amends after his Lok Sabha election defeat with a show of strength.
"Those out on bail cannot talk of justice. We are for the masses and want delamination not only for the Lok Sabha, but down the line for adequate representation to all sections of society. Former PM Indira Gandhi had frozen it for 25 years and it impacted all. In the south today, there is one MP for 21-lakh population, while in Bihar it is 31-lakh," he added.
With seat-sharing talks yet to take place in the NDA as well as Opposition, experts feel it is time for show of strength by different parties to have a larger pound of flesh.
"New options are also emerging to accommodate those denied tickets in the mainstream parties. This is the churning period and it will last till the seat sharing is finalised. Both the main alliances will wait for the other to take the lead in ticket distribution. Politics will only hot up in the days to come," said social analyst Prof DM Diwakar.
On Monday, the Opposition alliance's meeting is also scheduled at the residence Tejashwi, which is significant in the light of Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar's statement that he would also like to jump into the Bihar poll fray, should the Congress do decide.
Owaisi, on the other hand, has thrown an offer to the INDIA bloc. about AIMIM joining it to ensure regime change in Bihar. "It is important for the Opposition to put up a united fight against the NDA," said Owaisi, whose party won five seats in Seemanchal in 2020.
However, this evoked sharp reaction from BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal. "He is always a part of the INDIA bloc and there is nothing surprising about it. He should first go through the Waqf Act and then speak on it. It is about the rights of poor Pasmanda Muslims. Bihar is moving ahead and there is no looking back now," he said, brushing aside the meeting of Muslims in Patna as normal events during election period.
BJP leaders admit that Modi remains their ace and along with the track record of Nitish Kumar as a 'development man', the alliance does not have any worries, no matter how many parties join the Opposition alliance.
"The PM will visit Bihar 10 times before the elections and that would be an ideal launch pad for NDA. With three public meetings already in Siwan, Bikramganj and Madhubani, which came with a slew of launches of new programmes and inaugurations, the stage has already been set. The support of women is also a big factor for NDA, as they have experienced a transition from the life of fear and backwardness to one of prosperity and happiness," said a senior BJP leader....
