Dehradun, Oct. 22 -- Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader Yashpal Arya said his party will corner the state government during the upcoming two-day special session of the state assembly - to be convened to commemorate the silver jubilee of Uttarakhand's formation - on issues such as law and order and corruption. Arya said the "law and order situation has completely collapsed in the state", and "corruption has crossed all limits." "There is an atmosphere of fear in the state. The law and order situation has completely collapsed. Corruption has crossed all limits, and the BJP now has nothing left to say. If their record is placed before the people, it will reveal how they have looted Uttarakhand and created an environment of anarchy. Today, Uttarakhand ranks among the top in corruption. If a discussion is held in the Assembly, it will show how the state once built on the sacrifices of martyrs and activists has been reduced to dust. The BJP spends Rs.1,000 crore just to polish its image... the question is, whose money is that? If the BJP is truly honest, it should answer our questions. When our MLAs raise these issues, I don't think the government will be able to escape accountability," he said. "During the two-day session, we will hold up a mirror to the BJP government and expose the way it has misled the people. This is our duty and our responsibility. This two-day session will prove to be the final nail in the coffin of this government," Arya added. BJP state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said, "As the state celebrates its silver jubilee, it is important to discuss the state's development journey so far and way forward. The contribution of every section of the society... the two-day discussion in the state assembly will lay the foundation for the future of the state."Responding to the Congress's allegations, Chauhan said, "The people have repeatedly rejected them (Congress) in elections. They cannot mislead the people of the state and only try to create obstacles in the path of development." The two-day session of the Vidhan Sabha will be held in Dehradun on November 3 and 4 to highlight the state's achievements across 25 years and outline future development plans. Meanwhile, preparations are underway across the state for the state foundation day celebrations on November 9, when the state is completing 25 years of its formation On October 13, the state cabinet, chaired by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, had authorized the chief minister to call a special Assembly session ahead of the state's silver jubilee. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on October 13 said, "As this is our silver jubilee year, our state has progressed through several ups and downs over the past 25 years. It has been a long journey of experiences and development since the formation of the state. All these aspects will be discussed in the assembly, which is why it has been decided to convene a two-day session." Suryakant Dhasmana, senior vice president of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee, said, "We must deliberate on how effectively we have been able to stop the migration of our unemployed youth and improve education and healthcare facilities in remote areas. I welcome the decision to convene the two-day session, but both ruling and opposition MLAs should be given equal opportunities to speak in the assembly."...
