JAMSHEDPUR, Sept. 22 -- The Adivasi Kudmi Samaj (AKS) on Sunday morning called off its 'rail teka' (rail roko or block the railway tracks) agitation demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status and inclusion of the Kurmali language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution, bringing train blockades across Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha to an end, officials said. "The public agitation and rail blockade staged by AKS since Saturday wee hours has been withdrawn over the South Eastern Railway (SER) jurisdiction. As a result of the agitation, unrelated to the railway, SER train services were partially affected. Normalcy in train services is being restored gradually after withdrawal of the agitation," a SER press statement read on Sunday evening. "Railway blockade was organised at the Rakhamines-Galudih section and Bhanjpur of Kharagpur Division, the Sini-Gamharia and Sini-Kandra sections, and the Sonua Yard of Chakradharpur Division. In the Ranchi Division, agitation was staged at the Muri Yard and Latenda-Jhimri and Namkum-Tatisilwai sections and Kotshila under the Adra Division. Now agitation has been withdrawn from all locations under the SER zone," the statement added. "After the withdrawal of the Kudmi agitation, the services of the Mumbai-Howrah Geetanjali Express, the Ahmedabad-Howrah Express, and the Sainagar Shirdi-Howrah Express were restored by late Saturday night, while the Titlagarh-Howrah Ispat Express journey commenced on Sunday. A total of 56 trains were cancelled on Saturday, while 49 more trains have been cancelled on Sunday," a SER official told the media on Sunday. The official said that 56 trains cancelled on Saturday included Vande Bharat Express trains, Duronto, Ahmedabad Express, Jan Shatabdi Express, and many other major trains. The 49 trains cancelled on Sunday included the Howrah-Ranchi and Varanasi-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express, the Ranchi-Patna Vande Bharat Express, the Tata-NSCB Itwari, the Tata-Patna, the Patna-Bilaspur, the Buxar-Tata, the Intercity Express, and a host of MEMU trains.
