Kishor picks a transperson for Bhorey seat
BETTIAH, Oct. 10 -- A 50-year-old transgender, Pretty Kinnar, who has been handpicked by political strategist-turn-founder of Jan Suraaj Party, Prashant Kishor, as its official nominee for Bhorey assembly seat from Gopalganj district, on Thursday said her commitment towards society and effort to serve mankind was recognised at the outset.
Talking to HT over the phone from Bhorey, Pretty said the steps taken would help transgender community to take a giant leap, if their efforts were recognised in the same fashion. "Why should we not contribute to society? Popular impression about our community is that we are meant only for singing and dancing. If given the opportunity to serve as public representative, we can let society know that we are otherwise as efficient in many walk of life as anybody else," said Pretty Kinnar, who joined Jan Suraj in 2024.
A resident of Khap village in Bihar's Sitamarhi district, Pretty settled at Kalyanpur in Bhorey block of Gopalganj in 2003 after obtaining her education up to class 8 in Sitamarhi, she said....
