Kidnapped trader rescued; 7 arrested in Bihar's Rohtas district
SASARAM, April 30 -- Rohtas police, along with the district intelligence unit, rescued a local trader from the clutches of kidnappers within three hours of his abduction on Monday night, and arrested seven members of an eight-member kidnapping gang, officials said, adding that the operation involved 150 police personnel.
Grocery merchant Suraj Prasad Sah (52) was abducted around 10pm from Old GT Road near his residence in Amara Talab under the jurisdiction of Sasaram Mufassil police station area, while he was returning home after closing his shop.
Soon after the kidnapping, the abductors used Sah's mobile phone to demand a ransom of Rs.50 lakh from his family and threatened to kill him if the police were informed.
Following the incident, superintendent of police (SP) Raushan Kumar formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Dilip Kumar. The station house officers (SHOs) of Sasaram Mufassil, Dehri Town, Nasriganj, and the district intelligence were included.
Around 11.30 pm, the SIT received a tip-off that an eight-member gang was behind the abduction and that the victim was being taken towards Bahrar in a white car belonging to Chhotu Singh of Dhanpurawa village under the purview of Darigaon police station.
The SIT quickly alerted the Darigaon, Baddi, Chenari, and Karamchat police stations. The car was tracked to Beda canal road, and Chhotu Singh (26) was arrested while trying to flee. The car was also seized.
On interrogation, Chhotu Singh disclosed the location of the kidnapped trader and revealed the names of other members of the gang. Police later raided a house near the Sone River in the remote Paduri village under Nasriganj police station. There, they found and rescued Suraj Sah....
