PATNA, Sept. 6 -- Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel rescued a one-year-old child abducted from Patna Junction two weeks ago by arresting eight members of an interstate child-lifting gang, including a woman. Another child, said to have been stolen from an unknown location, was also recovered during the interrogation of the accused. Railways Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Rajeev Mishra confirmed the arrests, stating that the gang targeted lone women at railway stations, befriended them, and stole their children to sell to childless couples. Police are also probing the gang's role in a child theft reported from Nalanda. Later, an FIR was lodged with the Patna GRP, and CCTV footage was reviewed to identify the suspects. Rail ADG Bachchu Singh Meena formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under DIG Mishra, who supervised the probe. The main accused, Ranjit Prasad, confessed that he befriended Renu during the train journey and kidnapped the child, later selling him through Munna Bind and Babita Devi to Sanjit Kumar of Ekangarsarai, Nalanda, for Rs.2 lakh.
