Khera calls ECI PM's puppet, warns against electoral roll revision
PATNA, June 28 -- Congress leader Pawan Khera on Friday strongly criticised the Election Commission of India (ECI), labelling it a 'puppet' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in response to the commission's decision to revise the electoral roll ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters on his arrival here, Khera said, "We will talk about the ECI... Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and various leaders of the INDIA bloc are continuously discussing these issues. But the ECI runs like PM Modi's puppet."
Khera expressed concerns about the transparency of the ECI's processes, alleging that the revision could disenfranchise lakhs of voters in Bihar and across India. "With this new conspiracy hatched in the name of revision of voters' details, lakhs of people in Bihar and across India will be deprived of their right to vote," feared the Congress leader.
He claimed the move was part of a deliberate conspiracy and emphasised that Congress leaders, along with other INDIA bloc leaders, had been consistently raising these issues.
Khera also addressed a controversy sparked by BJP leaders who demanded an apology from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for allegedly referring to Bihar as a 'small' state. Khera clarified that Kharge had not insulted Bihar, explaining that he mentioned 'small nations' before discussing Bihar, and accused the BJP of misrepresenting the statement for political gain. He stressed that such tactics were typical of the BJP.
He also took a swipe at the BJP's observance of the 50th anniversary of the Emergency as 'Samvidhan Hatya Divas', calling the current period under the BJP-led government, referred to as 'Amrit Kaal', an 'undeclared emergency.'...
