Jamshedpur, Oct. 16 -- Ghatshila assembly bypoll on November 11 is now set for a direct battle between ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Somesh Chandra Soren, eldest son of former Jharkhand education minister late Ramdas Soren and Babulal Soren, son of former CM Champai Soren, with Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM) trying to make it a triangular contest. The Ghatshila bypoll has been necessitated due to the untimely demise of JMM MLA Ramdas Soren, who died on August 15 in a Delhi hospital after slipping in his Ghorabandha residence in Jamshedpur on August 2 this year. The ground for the direct contest was set after the JMM central committee meeting chaired by incumbent CM and central president of JMM Hemant Soren declared Somesh Soren as party candidate on Wednesday, while the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) put its trust once again in Babulal Soren. "It was decided in the party central committee meeting that Somesh Soren would be party candidate in Ghatshila. He will file his nomination on October 17, which will be attended by the leaders of the Mahagathbandhan led by Hemant Soren. That day all confusion regarding who is the real Soren will get cleared completely," Supriyo Bhattacharya, JMM general secretary and spokesperson, told the media after the meeting on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, the BJP announced the name of Babulal Soren as its candidate for the Ghatshila bypoll after the meeting of its central election committee in Delhi Wednesday morning. BJP national general secretary Arun Singh issued the list of party candidates -- Babulal Soren from Ghatshila, Aga Sayed Mohsin from Budgam, Devyani Rana from Nagrota, Jai Dholkia from Nuapara and Lankala Dipak Reddy from Jubilee Hills in Telangana. "I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to PM Modi ji, national president JP Nadda ji, home minister Amit Shah ji, state president Babulal Marandi ji, executive president Aditya Sahu ji and all my guardians and colleagues in the BJP family," Babulal Soren posted on social media platforms after the announcement. Babulal Soren would also file his nomination on October 17, which was to be attended by five former state CMs Babulal Marandi, Arjun Munda, Raghubar Das, Champai Soren, Madhu Koda, JD(U) state president Khiru Mahato and AJSU Party chief Sudesh Mahato, BJP sources said. Somesh Soren is eldest son of late Ramdas Soren who won the Ghatshila seat thrice in 2009, 2019 and 2024. Babulal Soren, who fought against Ramdas Soren in 2024, however, had lost the election with a margin of about 22,000 votes. BJP, on the other hand, has won the Ghatshila seat only once in 2014 when its candidate Laxman Tudu defeated Ramdas Soren. But Laxman Tudu is now in JMM after being denied a ticket by the BJP in 2024....
