JMM eyes 12 seats under INDIA bloc in Bihar poll
PATNA, May 28 -- The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) - an ally of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress in the neighbouring state - is preparing to field its nominees on at least a dozen seats in the Bihar assembly elections, due later this year.
"We are expecting to contest the elections under the banner of Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), being led by RJD. The JMM will be compelled to fight alone if the INDIA bloc refrained from allotting reasonable and respectable number of seats," said Vinod Kumar Pandey, JMM general secretary and a close aide of Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday.
JMM sources said that the party is currently eyeing at least 12 seats in the district bordering Jharkhand, north-eastern region and Champaran, where the party has a reasonable support base of electors. "The JMM might look for fielding its nominees on more seats, if its request for accommodating the party in the INDIA bloc remained unheeded," said another senior leader. "Jharkhand CM Soren had already hinted about the party's ambition to expand its base in Bihar during his meeting with Bihar's leader of the opposition in the assembly and RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on November 28, last year. Yadav had called on Soren on courtesy after the former was sworn in the chief minister," said the JMM leader.
Party insiders say that the JMM, still a part of INDIA bloc at the national level, was hoping for its inclusion in Bihar as well....
