SASARAM, July 18 -- A 55-year-old man was brutally axed to death while he was sleeping inside his cowshed near Amara village under the hilly Amjhor police station area in Rohtas district late Wednesday night, police said. The deceased has been identified as Parasnath Singh, a farmer and father of JD(U) youth wing Tilouthu block president Rakesh Kumar alias Bhola, police added. Superintendent of Police (SP) Raushan Kumar, who was on his way to the crime scene, said the victim's family was engaged in cremation rituals and had not yet submitted a formal complaint. A case will be registered once a complaint is received. However, preliminary investigations suggest the murder was likely linked to a land dispute. One prime suspect has been detained and is being interrogated. According to police, Singh had gone to his cowshed on Wednesday evening and did not return home due to continuous heavy rainfall. His family assumed he had stayed there overnight. On Thursday morning, Singh's wife, Shanti Devi, went to the shed and discovered him lying in a pool of blood with multiple sharp-edged injuries to his head and face.
