JD(U) leader's brother, his wife and daughter found dead in Purnia
PURNIA, Nov. 6 -- The elder brother of JD-U leader Niranjan Kushwaha, his wife and daughter were found dead under mysterious circumstances at their residence in the district headquarters area late Tuesday night, police said.
Purnea Superintendent of Police (SP) Sweety Sahrawat confirmed the deaths and said the post-mortem would be conducted by a medical board at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Purnea, to ascertain the exact cause.
The deceased have been identified as businessman Naveen Kushwaha (52), his wife Kanchan Mala (48), and daughter Tanu Priya (23), who was a student.
The SP said, "There is a ligature mark around the businessman's neck, and besides that, nothing else has been found." She added that all three were taken to a private hospital, where doctors declared them dead after preliminary examination.
Quoting JD-U leader Niranjan Kushwaha, the SP said the businessman's wife had been unwell, while the daughter had a head injury. "The cause of death will only be ascertained after the post-mortem examination," she added. Forensic experts have collected evidence from the spot, and doctors have ruled out the possibility of natural death.
Police said Naveen Kushwaha had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on a BSP ticket.
Soon after the incident, leaders from all political parties rushed to the businessman's residence to offer condolences.
"It's a personal loss. We have lost a businessman and a leader," JD-U leader Leshi Singh said, adding that police would reveal the cause of death after investigation.
Purnia MP Pappu Yadav said, "Prima facie, I won't call it a natural death. The post-mortem report will reveal what actually happened."
The incident, coming amid the election season, has sent shockwaves across the area.
Purnea goes to the polls on November 11, and campaigning ends on Sunday evening....
