PATNA, Aug. 11 -- A joint team of STF and Patna police on Saturday night arrested Sunil Kumar alias Sunil Mahajan, a business partner of RJD MLA Ritlal Yadav, in connection with the allegedly demanding extortion of Rs.50 lakh from a builder. He was arrested during a raid at Abhiyanta Nagar, Gokul Path under Rupaspur police station. Sunil was absconding since a case was registered against him at Khagaul police station on April 10 against him under Sections 308(5), 111(2), 111 (3), 339 and 3 (5) of the BNS. Police said that acting on a tip-off that Sunil had come to get a rakhi tied by his sister, a joint team of Patna police and STF raided his house at Gokul Path and arrested him, he added. Notably, Ritlal Yadav is currently lodged in Bhagalpur jail in the same case. Builders Gaurav Kumar and Rakesh Kumar had filed a case in Khagaul police station on April 10 in which it is alleged that MLA Ritlal Yadav had demanded extortion of Rs.50 lakh from them. The two reached a settlement for Rs.30 lakh, out of which Rs.14 lakh was paid. The builder also alleged that the MLA used to pressure him to buy construction material from his own people. After the case was registered, the police raided the places and recovered Rs.10.50 lakh in cash, blank cheques of Rs.77 lakh, 6 blank cheques and other important documents. SSP Kartikeya Sharma told media persons that Sunil would be taken to remand and investigated. Meanwhile, Sunil Mahajan was also accused in connection with the murder of a young advocate Dhanpat Kumar, 27, and his relative Sambhu Rai (55). Both were gunned down on July 23, 2015 near the residence of the then public prosecutor (PP) of district and session court at Gabhtal Area, barely 500 metres away from the Danapur police station. Police said that Kumar and Rai had gone to the PP residence to discuss the murder case of Rai's son Rakesh Kumar and his friend Rahul Kumar, who had been killed on November 6, 2013 by the criminals named in the FIR....
