J'khand min on life support after falling in bathroom
Jamshedpur, Aug. 3 -- Jharkhand education minister Ramdas Soren was in a critical and put on ventilator at Delhi's Apollo Hospital after suffering a head injury from a fall in the bathroom of his Jamshedpur residence on Saturday, people familiar with the matter said.
"Soren is still in a critical state and has been kept on ventilator. The situation is, however, fully under the control of the team of specialist doctors treating him," a bulletin issued by the hospital in the evening read.
Earlier, Dr Irfan Ansari, Jharkhand health minister, told the media that Soren was critical but his condition was stable.
"Ramdas Soren is in a critical state but in stable condition. His vital parameters are currently under the close observation and control of the treating doctors at Apollo Hospital, Delhi. A team of specialist doctors from Jharkhand has been sent to Delhi, while another team of specialists is being brought in from Chennai's Apollo Hospital," Dr Ansari said before leaving for Delhi from Deoghar Airport on Saturday afternoon.
"I am going to Delhi and will return with my bosom friend Ramdas Soren fully cured and healthy. We appeal to all to avoid rumours and pray for his speedy recovery," Dr Ansari said.
It was Dr Ansari who first shared the news of 62-year-old Jharkhand Mukti Morcha JMM MLA from Ghatshila sustaining a serious brain injury after falling in the bathroom of his Ghorabandha residence early Saturday morning.
"Soren was rushed to Tata Motors Hospital by family members, where doctors detected a blood clot in his brain and referred him to higher institutions. We airlifted him to Ranchi immediately and then sent him to Apollo Hospital in Delhi by air ambulance," Dr Ansari posted on X on Saturday morning.
Soren's elder son Somesh Soren, and former Baharagora MLA and JMM spokesperson Kunal Sarangi, accompanied him to Delhi in the air ambulance. According to family members, Soren had returned to his Ghorabandha residence last night from Ranchi. "He went to the bathroom before setting out for a morning walk around 4:30 am. He slipped and fell in the bathroom, sustaining injuries to his head and one of his hands," family members said.
Former Jharkhand CM Arjun Munda, who is also a neighbour of Soren in Ghorabandha, came to Sonari Airport in Jamshedpur to see him off when Soren was being airlifted to Ranchi.
"I have spoken with the director of Apollo Hospital in Delhi. He has assured that treatment will begin as soon as Ramdas Soren reaches the hospital. Soren had a brain haemorrhage due to a sudden rise in blood pressure and fell in the bathroom," Munda told the media at Sonari Airport.
Former CM Raghubar Das, state minister Yogendra Prasad, and other political leaders have prayed for the speedy recovery of Ramdas Soren.
"Soren's condition is critical but stable. He slipped in the bathroom of his Ghorabandha residence early Saturday morning, sustaining a head injury. We have reached Apollo Hospital, and Soren is undergoing treatment. Chief minister Hemant Soren is in constant touch with me and has been enquiring about Soren's health condition round the clock," Sarangi told the media.
CM Hemant Soren had rushed to Delhi on Friday evening after the Assembly session as the health condition of his father and MP, Shibu Soren, deteriorated. The JMM founder is currently on a ventilator at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi.
Meanwhile, rumours were agog on social media about Ramdas Soren's demise on the way to Delhi, which were later refuted by Dr Ansari and Kunal Sarangi. JMM MLA Mathura Mahato even organised a condolence meeting in Dhanbad on Saturday....
