Dhanbad, Oct. 29 -- In the wake of the recent case of accidental transfusion of HIV-infected blood to thalassemia-affected children in Chaibasa, the Jharkhand government has launched a statewide review of blood banks to ensure compliance with safety standards and screening protocols. As part of this exercise, high-level district teams on Tuesday conducted detailed inspections of blood banks at Dhanbad's Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH) and various facilities in Bokaro. In Dhanbad, deputy commissioner Aditya Ranjan personally inspected the SNMMCH Blood Bank, examining machines, testing systems, and storage facilities. He said the inspection was part of a state-level monitoring exercise aimed at ensuring safety, quality, and transparency in blood storage and transfusion practices. Ranjan instructed officials to assess and promptly rectify any minor technical snags in the long-used equipment. He also emphasised that every stage of the donation and testing process must be strictly monitored to rule out any contamination risks. "To make voluntary blood donation more accessible, a mobile blood donation van equipped with modern facilities will soon be introduced in Dhanbad," the DC added....
