IRS officer, two others held for taking bribes
PATNA, July 17 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested an IRS officer working as an assistant director, income tax (I-T) department Patna, and two other staffers of the department for taking bribe of Rs.2 lakh from the complainant.
The central agency registered the instant case on July 15 against the three accused on allegations of demand and acceptance of bribe of Rs.2 lakh from the complainant for the release of a previously seized amount of Rs.13 lakh and for not initiating any further inquiry against him.
An amount of Rs.13 lakh had reportedly been seized from the complainant's brother-in-law at Patna airport, which was intimated to the I-T department.
The CBI laid a trap and apprehended the accused individuals red-handed while accepting the bribe.
During the operation, the agency successfully recovered the bribe money of Rs.2 lakh, which was collected on the direction and on behalf of the accused IRS officer.
Searches were conducted at three different places of accused persons in Patna. All the three accused were remanded to three days by Special CBI Court-1 in Patna.
Those arrested are Aditya Saurabh, IRS, Manish Kumar Pankaj, inspector, and Shubham Raj, multi tasking staff, income tax department, Patna....
