Dehradun, Oct. 15 -- The Special Task Force (STF) along with a team from the Udham Singh Nagar Police arrested an inter-state illegal arms supplier and recovered seven country made pistols ('tamancha') from his possession. Five are of .315 bore, and 2 are 12 bore. The police also recovered a motorcycle from him, they said. The accused, identified as 32-year-old Azad Ali, a resident of Gadarpur in Udham Singh Nagar, supplied weapons in the area multiple times from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh (UP). He is facing several cases registered under the Arms Act, police officers said. STF SSP Navneet Siungb Bhullar said, "Our Kumaon unit, along with Gadarpur police station, arrested the accused on Monday from the Gadarpur police station area. We recovered seven country made pistols from his possession. Five are of .315 bore and 2 are 12 bore. We also recovered a motorbike from him. During the interrogation, the accused revealed that he had been supplying weapons in the area from Uttar Pradesh for a long time now. He had been jailed twice for supplying weapons in Gadarpur." "A case has been registered against the accused at Gadarpur police station in Udham Singh Nagar under relevant sections of the Arms Act. He is also facing similar cases for crimes committed in the past," the police officer said. "We are investigating the UP angle and will take action against those involved in the supply of weapons along with him," the SSP said.
